Two Easy Ways to Preserve Your Flowers
Drying flowers after special occasions like weddings, graduations, or other fun events is a great way to preserve memories. It usually doesn’t take long for flowers to begin wilting, especially if the ceremony they were used for called for them to be out of water’so don’t delay when it is time to dry them. Two techniques for preserving flowers lead to two totally different looks?but neither is difficult to do. The more basic method is to dry your flowers by hanging them upside down. However, it is important to keep a few things in mind: moisture and light are enemies to a perfectly dry flower, so hang your flowers in a cool, dry, dark place. Also, dried flowers are very fragile, so to prevent damage we recommend placing them in a case or shadowbox. Another great technique for preserving a flower is to press it?but keep in mind that the end product will be flat. If the flower is small and thin, the process will be easy; if the flower is bigger or has a distinct shape (such as a tulip or daffodil), it may be easier to just press the petals.
Decorating with Silk Orchids
There are over 30,000 types of orchids, and almost four times as many orchid hybrids. Similarly, orchids take up a lion’s share of the silk flower market. All orchids are known for their beautiful leaf pattern, which is semi-symmetrical in appearance. The actual flower is also semi-symmetrical, and most have more than one color, combined in beautiful, sharply contrasting designs. Because they are so eye-catching but delicate, they should be the ‘star? of any flower arrangements they are placed in. Many common arrangements have orchids flowing over the basket or vase, standing tall in the center, or surrounded by other greenery. Most orchids are very vivid-looking, but you can find orchids in pretty much any color you can think of. Orchids are a good choice for home decor because they look right for almost any season.
Silk Maple Trees
One of the most beloved trees is the breathtaking maple tree. Maple trees are most noted for their maple leaf, which can be found on the Canadian flag. The shape and intricate detail of the maple leaf are practically inimitable. To duplicate this in a silk maple tree is something of a craft miracle. Also, the amount of leafage on silk maple trees is much greater than with most other tree types. With so many leaves, the tree appears very verdant and fertile, but keep in mind that silk trees do need a periodic cleaning. However, this purging of dust, in all reality, need only happen once a year.
Designing Wedding Flowers
There are arguably few things in life that parallel the wedding in terms of specialness and significance. On this glorious day, flowers make everything look that much more beautiful. Flowers can be used not only as decorations but as part of the ensemble for many people in the wedding. For women, there are corsages; men display boutonnieres, and of course, the bride carries her wedding bouquet. In addition, flowers and other greenery can be used in a variety of places as decorations. With such a great responsibility as coordinating the wedding flower decorations, you will need to break the process up into manageable stages. Color, type of flower, and arrangement design are the three most important elements to consider with flowers (and it often helps to make those decisions in that order). Often, the bride will have already chosen the colors she wants to have at her ceremony. Roses are the most used type of flower at weddings, but talk to the bride about her ideas: she may want something very traditional or something more exotic. The most difficult decision is often with how the flowers are arranged, because there are so many choices. The best way is often to stick to two or three ?looks? and apply them to all the decorations you use. If you follow these steps, you will do a great job regardless of how practiced you are!
